JK SLSA gets Zonal Best Award

JAMMU, Nov 13: Under the leadership of Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Patron-in- chief and Justice Rajesh Bindal, Executive Chairman, JK SLSA, the Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority was awarded Zonal Best State Legal Services Authority of the North Zone (J&K, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Uttrakhand) in recognition of the utmost commitment and excellent work done in legal services.
The award was received by M K Sharma, Member Secretary JK SLSA ( Designate ) in a Commendation Ceremony held on National Legal Services Day in the auditorium of Supreme Court at New Delhi.
Ravi Shakar Prasad, Union Minister of Law and Justice, Electronics and IT was the chief guest in the function which was attended by Justice S A Bobde, Chief Justice of India (Designate) ; Justice N V Ramana, Chairman, SCLSC; Judges of the Supreme Court; Chief Justices of the High Courts; Executive Chairmen of SLSAs and other dignitaries.
The unrelenting and sound policy direction and clarity of vision of the Chief Justice coupled with goal orientation paved way for consistent and successful achievement of the objectives of National Legal Services Authority in J&K. During the period, 3336 number of people which include 865 women, 86 children and 96 people in custody were provided legal assistance by JK SLSA. The innovative approaches and frameworks adopted with sustainable practices by JK SLSA in opening recreational homes called Ahata-e-Waqar for the senior citizens at Jammu, Srinagar and Leh, in addition to devising and implementing the outreach legal services programmes by organising Mega legal Services Camps and Lok Adalats for quick, timely and inexpensive justice were the indicators for the Best Performance of J&K.
During the year, in September 2018, 22 Judicial Officers were appointed as Secretaries DLSAs, out of which 14 Secretaries were appointed as full time Secretaries, whereas, remaining 8 as part time Secretaries. All the Secretaries were oriented to the functioning of DLSAs at Delhi in January 2019.
In addition to this, there has been substantial focus on environment related issues ranging from garbage control to water conservation. There was significant focus on green initiatives under which numerous plantation drives were launched by planting thousands of saplings across the length and breadth of both the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Apart this, in order to bring back into the fold /mainstream, first offenders and school drop outs, a pilot skilling programme called Main Hunhar Hoon was launched at Srinagar, Udhampur and Leh in which a number of youth were imparted training and a smart number of them were suitably adjusted also. Moreover, violence by organising sensitisation programmes in various schools in all the districts were organised.
