Srinagar, Jan 20: Police today said they have counseled 25 boys – mostly minors – who previously indulged in stone-pelting on security forces in Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain, said the boys were filmed while pelting stones at Pattan and Palhallan hamlets of the district. “We summoned their parents and then they brought them to police station Pattan where we counseled them for more than an hour,” he said.
The SSP said the police have decided to act leniently against these boys. “These boys get exploited certain elements because of their tender age. We decided to counsel them and in near future we will try to give skill development training to school dropouts among them so that they then get employment in private institutes,” he said.
The top cop, however, said that if any of them turns repeated offender then he would face strict action. “We have already lodged some of the minors in juvenile home and if any of these also indulge again in stone-pelting then we will act accordingly,” he added.
