JAMMU, Nov 18: Police cane charged the protesting inmates of Gujjar Hostel near GGM Science College as they blocked the vehicular movement on the road to highlight their issues.
Hundreds of inmates of Gujjar Hostel assembled near GGM Science College here today and held protest. They raised slogans against the hostel administration for not providing good food to the inmates.
The protesting inmates also blocked the vehicular movement on the Canal Road during protest. They also demanded removal of hostel warden Shamim Nazki.
One of the protesting students said that the hostel administration is not serving good food to the inmates. “The hostel administration is also harassing the inmates on one pretext or other, which we don’t allow”, he added.
“We protested silently for few days, but no one from the concerned administration came to redress our issues. As the concerned administration failed to redress our issues, we have to come on road”, he added.
The protesting students were demanding implementation of proper food meni and removal of warden of Gujjar Hostel.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and cane charged the protesting inmates so as to disperse them and restore the vehicular movement on the Canal Road.
“An ambulance got struck during the protest and we have to cane charge the protestors so as to clear the way for the ambulance”, police sources said, adding that some of the inmates of the Gujjar Hostel were also taken into preventive custody and later were released.
Sources told the EXCELSIOR that the Warden of the Gujjar Hostel has been attached by the concerned authorities. “Why the inmates protest after attachment of the warden of the Gujjar Hostel is yet to ascertain”, he added.
