SRINAGAR, May 2: Police in Kulgam have busted an inter-state narcotics network and attached properties worth Rs 92.73 lakh linked to the accused in Jammu, officials said today.
The case stems from an operation on March 20, when a Police team from Qazigund Police Station intercepted a suspect near the Railway Station at Kurigam.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Rafiq Mir of Panzinara in Srinagar, was found in possession of about 16 grams of heroin.
A case (FIR No. 43/2026) under Sections 8/21 of the NDPSA was registered and investigation was launched.
During questioning, officials said, Mir disclosed that the contraband had been sourced from Bagh Hussain Kasana, a resident of Channore Basti Gajansoo in Jammu, currently living in the Nikki Tawi area.
Acting on the information, Police obtained a search warrant and raided the suspect’s residence, recovering about 265 grams of a heroin-like substance.
He was arrested on March 22, and additional charges under Section 29 of the Act were invoked.
Investigators said the accused was involved in inter-state drug trafficking and was supplying narcotics to various parts of the Kashmir Valley.
A subsequent financial probe found that the accused had acquired immovable assets through proceeds of drug trafficking.
These include land valued at about Rs 71.52 lakh and a residential house worth around Rs 21.21 lakh at Beli Charana in Jammu.
The assets, totalling Rs 92.73 lakh, have been identified and attached under legal provisions.
Police said the action is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and target financial gains linked to narcotics trade.
Officials warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in trafficking as well as those aiding or financing such activities, and urged the public to share information with authorities.
