Police attaches assets worth Rs 6 cr of 4 drug peddlers

SRINAGAR, May 16: Police in Srinagar today attached three immovable properties and one vehicle worth nearly Rs 6 crore belonging to three drug peddlers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act while in Handwara property of one drug peddler was attached.
The action was carried out by Police Station Khanyar under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act.
Police said a double-storeyed residential house along with eight shops built on 4.5 marlas of land at Koolipora, Khanyar, belonging to Nazir Ahmad Mir alias Nazir Lashkari, son of Abdul Wahab Mir of Koolipora Khanyar, was attached in connection with FIR No. 08/2020 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Khanyar.
The property is estimated to be worth around Rs 3.2 crore.
In another case, police attached a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK01AW-8898 valued at around Rs 20 lakh and a property comprising seven marlas of land with a temporary structure erected on it, having a combined estimated value of about Rs 1.8 crore.
It belonged to Gulzar Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rahman Mir of Baghi Roop Singh, Miskeen Bagh, Khanyar. The attachment was made in connection with FIR No. 08/2026 under Sections 8/21/29 of the NDPS Act.
Police also attached a single-storeyed residential house constructed on nine marlas of land belonging to Zahid Manzoor Rather, son of Manzoor Ahmad Rather of Lone Mohalla, Nowpora Khanyar.
The property, estimated to be worth around Rs 80 lakh, was attached in connection with FIR No. 96/2020 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
According to police, the attached properties were identified as illegally acquired assets generated through proceeds of narcotics trafficking and drug peddling.
In Handwara, Police attached a residential property worth around Rs 40 lakh belonging to a drug trafficker.
Police identified the accused as Ab Hameed Sheikh, son of Ab Rashid Sheikh, a resident of Kachloo Kralgund in Handwara.
According to police, the attached residential house had allegedly been renovated using proceeds generated through illicit narcotics trafficking.
Officials said the accused is involved in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act.
Police described the action as part of an intensified campaign aimed at dismantling the financial infrastructure supporting drug trafficking networks.
Officials reiterated that properties derived from drug-related activities would face strict legal action as part of the anti-narcotics drive.
Meanwhile, Police in Sopore today attached immovable property belonging to a proclaimed offender linked with the banned militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.
Police identified the accused as Rasid-ud-Din Qureshi, son of Abdul Kabir Qureshi of Nadihal Rafiabad, who is involved in FIR No. 02/2008 registered at Police Station Panzalla under Sections 2/3 of the E&IMCO Act.
According to police, investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly crossed over to Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir for obtaining arms and ammunition training and is presently operating in coordination with the Hizbul Mujahideen network from Pakistan.
Police, in coordination with the Revenue Department, attached two kanals of land at Lashdaej Nadihal valued in lakhs.
Officials said the accused had been evading legal proceedings for a prolonged period and was declared a proclaimed offender by a competent court under Section 88 CrPC.
The attachment proceedings were carried out following court orders after verification through revenue records and local enquiry, police said, adding that the process was conducted in the presence of revenue officials and independent witnesses.
Police termed it the third such attachment action carried out by Sopore Police within the last three days as part of an intensified crackdown on terror handlers, absconders and anti-national elements.
