Srinagar, Feb 6:  Police today arrested a man in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district for stealing a baby from his parents in a hospital and was planning to make him beg.
A Police official said three-year-old, Uzair Ahmad Bhat, had gone missing on Wednesday afternoon from Sub-District Hospital Handwara where his mother was admitted.
“As soon as we got information, we swung into action and arrested a youth, Imtiyaz Ahmad Hajam of Nowgam, Kupwara, who was hiding in a house with the child,” Ashiq Tak, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Handwara, told Excelsior.
“Uzair was rescued from him in the house in Badra Payeen on Wednesday night and has been reunited with his parents,”
The DSP said the accused had stolen the child to use him for begging.
“The baby stealer has been arrested and case has also been filed against him under FIR 24/2014 in Police Station Handwara,” Tak said.
