JAMMU, Jan 29: The displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) today staged protest dharna against delay being caused in releasing compensation by the Government at Exhibition Ground here today.
The PoJK DPs led by Capt (Retd) Yudvir Singh Chib, president PoJK DPs’ Front 1947, 65, 71 & Camp Non-Camp 1971, assembled near Press Club in the morning and staged dharna in support of their demands. Earlier, Capt Chib unfurled tri-colour to mark Republic Day celebrations.
While demanding justice for the DPs from PoJK and other categories, the activists of PoJK DPs Front 1947, 1965, 1971 held demonstration and raised slogans in support of their demands. They alleged that some Revenue officials were creating unnecessary hurdles in release of Rs 5.5 lakh compensation announced by the Prime Minister Modi.
Capt Chib demanded that process of distribution of Rs 2000 crore package announced by Prime Minister for them be expedited. He also said this amount can not be treated as full and final package and moreover, many other components of the package even recommended by the Joint Parliamentary Committee have been ignored.
While raising the problems of DPs Capt Chib said that old record of previous place is not available with many families, ration cards of Camp DPs of 1965 and 71 are not available with claimants, issueless families are being ignored, those families which are in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi etc are also being ignored. He demanded that second supplementary list be accepted by the Revenue authority for verification. The files of DPs which are fully verified be cleared for release of compensation.
The protesting displaced persons including women members alleged that they were being harassed by the Revenue/ Custodian department employees on various pretexts.
The protesting DPs also demanded that process of preparing documents be simplified and many families are facing harassment at the hands of employees of Revenue department.
