The 118-page book entitled ‘A Ray of Hope’, a collection of poems in English, has been authored by a Jammunite Kiran Kanchan.
It contains 100 poems, big and small. Most of them inspire confidence and also sustain the crucial hope. A redeeming feature of Kiran Kanchan’s poetry is couched in simple language, written in a unique style which touch deepest the human heart and mind.
There are outburst of inner emotions and expressions in deep sentiments. Poetic compositions titled : “Mother”, “Try and Understand”, Prayer, Success, Agony, Broken Hearts, Limit-Your Needs, Shades of Life, God Proposed Me, Live Life King-Size, Speak Truth, Inner Voice, Love Nature, A Cup of Tea, Innocent Soul, Life – A Long Tunnel, Spread Happiness, Magical Tree in this book speak a lot about her versatile creative faculty.

It’s chance that matters
Anything that can make you dance, is chance
Those who are fortunate, get it.
Though destiny is pre-decided
But Luck has a greatest role,

She started writing English poetry from early age in her life and got some of them published in the leading newspapers, the Daily Excelsior included. She won applause for free flow of ideas and emotions in simple and direct style.
Flow of Ideas
Kiran Kanchan, born to Des Raj and Pushpa Devi, is highly educated and presently working as “Lecturer in a Higher Secondary School, often expresses her delicate feelings and experiences of realities of life. The young mind of this poet has gone through all that comprises life.
It is noteworthy that Kiran Kanchan’s poetry written in easy-to-understand language, self-explanatory expression with meaningful messages speak of her genius. Even the common reader would understand her thought-provoking ideas and emotions. The flight of her imagination is high but the experiences expressed are hard realities indeed.
She holds the degrees of MA (English) from IGNOU and also M.Ed. In addition, she has written poetry in Hindi and also prose with some of the articles finding place in newspapers. This Jammu poet with a gifted pen has already won some prizes and awards.
The eminent writer Dr. S.P. Shrivatsa has penned Foreword in this book and expressed good word about the poetic genius of Kiran Kanchan. In the introductory note Kanchan states that putting thoughts on paper gives her immense pleasure. Undoubtedly, it also provides pleasure to the lovers of poetry.
The book, “The Ray of Hope” containing exciting poems in English has been produced well by the publisher. Writing poetry in English is rare but Kiran Kanchan has proved she can rise to the challenge and give the readers a pleasing, purposeful poetry. It is indeed a good addition to our literature.
