JAMMU, Dec 8: Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) held series of meetings at Lalay Da Bagh, Swami Kumar JI Ashram Muthi and Geeta Bhawan Muthi in which a fervent appeal was made to State Government for passage of Shrines and Temples Bill pending in State Assembly.
The meetings were attended by prominent members of the community, social and political activists, members of Prabandhak committees etc. It expressed grave concern over delaying tactics adopted by Government in passage of the Bill despite the fact that the NC when in Opposition had taken an initiative on its own by introducing a Private Member’s Bill in Assembly for the management of Hindu Shrines and Temples in Valley.
The Trust renewed its appeal to Government regarding the passage of the Bill while turning its attention towards the encroachment of land of shrines by mafia and its illegal sale over last 25 years of turmoil.
The meeting said further delay in passage of the Bill will aggravate the situation and provide opportunity to land mafia and vested interests to continue the encroachments of shrines and temples land and loot their properties.
The Trust said that formation of the Board was the only alternative to save these shrines which are the cultural monuments and a testimony to ancient rich culture of Valley from further damage.
