PM should intervene in Jammu, Srinagar metro projects: Ashok

JAMMU, Dec 18: Former MLA and Coordinator AICC Vichar Vibhag  Ashok Sharma has sought the intervention of Prime Minister to impress upon the Union Urban Development  and Railways Ministers to start Jammu  and Srinagar Metro Rail Projects on top priority.
In a press statement issued here today, Sharma former legislator pleaded that  the city of temples (Jammu) has been recorded as the second grabious city in the world with regard to traffic congestion  and pollution whereas,  the city of Srinagar described as heaven on the earth by great writer Kalhan can not be compared to the other cities in the country because of its unique identification.
He pointed out that  over every year crore tourists visit the Holy shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi and five to seven lakhs to Shri Amarnath ji shrine. Over 15 lakh tourists are also visiting Kashmir, Ladakh  and other parts of the State. It adds to the severe traffic jams in these major cities.  Due to such interruptions the public life gets halted, he added.
Sharma, a former member of the  Advisory Group of  Northern Railways claimed that the Jammu Metro project along with rail link to Rajouri-Poonch is being sidelined  despite being declared as National project at one point of time for no substantial reasons. He demanded that Prime Minister should intervene into the matter.
