JAMMU, Nov 5: Anticipating the redressal of the issues pertaining to Jammu region, Chairman of NPP Harshdev Singh reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of BJP’s pre-poll promises made with the Jammu people ahead of his visit to Kashmir on Nov 7.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Singh disclosed that the people of Jammu region had voted in favour of the BJP and brought it to power wishing that the Saffron Party would liberate them from sufferings and regional discrimination, but more than 8 months had passed after formation of Govt but the plight of the people of Jammu region stood unabated.
The NPP leader reminded Mr Modi that the transfer of prestigious AIIMS to Kashmir which was actually sanctioned for Jammu region, stoked civil unrest which took the shape of a mass movement. Revealing that Jammu region has a highly fragile tertiary health care system, Mr Singh hoped that the PM would announce the establishment of the premier health institution in the region.
Expressing his dismay over the MoUD’s announcement in which 98 cities were shortlisted for the development into ‘Smart Cities’. Mr Singh pointed out that J&K was the only State which was kept out of the mega project race. He hoped that Mr Modi would announce Smart City for Jammu since it had satisfied all the eligibility criteria.
While referring to the BJP’s commitment on delimitation of Assembly constituencies, Harshdev revealed that there had been no legitimate delimitation in J&K since 1981. He maintained that there were 87 Assembly constituencies in the State, out of which, 37 were in Jammu province and which had an area double the size to that of Kashmir valley. Pinning high hopes on Modi to fulfill the political promise to the people of Jammu region, Mr Singh expected that PM would respond accordingly towards ending the regional discrimination.
Reminding the assurances given to West Pak and POJK refugees of 1947 by the BJP, Mr Singh hoped that Modi would announce succor for these refugees and liberate them from sufferings and miseries.
Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yash Paul Kundal ( Ex-MLAs) expressed anguish over the shabby condition of the border residents and the farmers of Jammu region and said that they have been affected with Pak shelling. They hoped that Mr Modi would announce the construction of shelters for the affected families in safer zones besides comprehensive relief and compensation package for the farmers and the border residents.
