JAMMU, Jan 29: Panun Kashmir will apprise all human rights bodies within the State and outside about the human rights violations being done in the Jagti Camp.
This was stated by PK general secretary Kuldeep Raina at a press conference here today who also announced the launch of Prayas to cater to the problems of the Jagti camp and other camps .
He said Prof M L Raina was appointed advisor of Prayas while a social activist and community leader P L Raina was appointed its coordinator. Sanjay Raina and Chand Ji Pandita were appointed as members.
He said finding the situation of grave human rights abuse in the Jagti Camp Panun Kashmir wishes to share it with the public.
Raina. Said, the Government has not undertaken any in-depth assessment of the problems being faced by the Jagti camp inmates despite a lot of public out cry. He alleged that the repair work of the cracks and leakages at numerous places in the construction work of the Jagti camp has been done merely for cosmetic purposes.
Sanjay Raina, co-ordinator, Panun Kashmir, Jagti camp said, the camp inmates faced acute shortage of water supply during Summer this year and the disruption has continued for weeks together at a stretch. Chand Ji Pandits, another co-ordinator, Jagti camp said the failure of power supply in the camp has added to woes of camp inmates which amounts to human rights violation.
Piarey Lal Raina said,” the students living in the Jagati Camp have suffered immensely in their studies due to deprivation of proper electricity and water. The teachers living in the Camp have opined that the results in education this year may be worse for the children living in the camp.
He said shifting of the migrants to the Jagati camp has been their second displacement. Shifting has also destroyed almost all avenues for the self-employed persons who had opened small shops and business enterprises to earn livelihood and they have no avenues for establishment of shops at Jagti camp, he added.
Prof.M.L.Tiku, said it seems that under a political design the camp has been subjected to psychological and physical attrition so that people voluntarily chose to leave the camp.
