Pir Panchal range

Sir,
Please refer to the article titled Pir Panchal range by K.D. Maini which stands published in DE on March 3,2013 deserves appreciation. However, Pir Panchal or Pir Panjal range does not cover merely areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts vis-a-vis Kashmir region etc. but also those of Kishtwar and Doda districts of Jammu region as well as tracts of Kathua, Udhampur and Ramban districts. As a matter of fact, some parts of Doda and Kishtwar districts lying in the Pir Panjal range touch the Dhaula Dhar Range of Himachal Pradesh. Quite akin to the Margs and Dhokes found in the Pir Panchal Range of Rajouri, Poonch and Kashmir region, the pastures known as Dhars/Advahars are confined to high altitudes of Kishtwar and Doda districts.
The attachment of pastoral people (Gujjar and Bakerwals) is based upon emotional, traditional, mythical and socio economical considerations to Dhars/Advahars. Not only  this, Dhars/Advaharas constitute the practical fields of study for the Himalayan biodiversity.
Yours etc….
