PIB organises webinar on “Transparent Taxation; Honouring the Honest”

Jammu, Sept 15: Press Information Bureau (PIB) Jammu today organised a webinar on “Transparent Taxation; Honouring the Honest”‘ through digital platform.
The webinar was attended by Mona Singh, Principal Commissioner Income Tax Jammu and Devpreet Singh, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau, Northern Region.
The webinar focussed on the paradigm shift introduced by the new tax system by eliminating of human interface in income tax assessment and further rationalisation, simplification and overall tax payer friendly ecosystem. Neha Jalali , Deputy Director, PIB and ROB Head , Jammu also attended the webinar.
Devpreet Singh while introducing the subject said that new taxation system was in line with Government’s vision of “Maximum Governance and Minimum Government”. She said that new tax system would be seamless, painless and faceless that would make the process simpler for the tax payers and broaden the base.
She said there was a need to increase the tax base of the country since out of 130 crore Indians only 1.5 crore paid taxes. She also emphasised the need for spreading awareness regarding taxation procedures for which PIB was taking initiative in various states and UTs across the country.
Earlier Neha Jalali, Deputy Director ,PIB & ROB J&K emphasised the need to increase the tax base with a view to aid the Government in the process of nation building . She said that income tax was a major source of Government’s revenue and wider tax base would increase Government spending on public utilities and social welfare schemes thus giving an give an overall boost to the economy.
Principal Commissioner Income Tax Jammu Mona Singh explained the evolution of Income Tax System in India over the past decades. She said that the department had evolved to bring more and more citizens under the fold of taxation. She also said that the recent reforms were aimed at making the process of filing tax user friendly, simpler and digital as compared to the manual and cumbersome process in the past. She emphasised the need to spread awareness amongst people to reduce confusion and apprehensions of public with regard to the procedure of filing income tax.
Akhilesh Salathia, Chartered Accountant explained various components and units of the Faceless Assesment Scheme like National E-Assesment Centre, Assesment Unit, Verification Unit, Review Unit etc.
Suraj S Wazir, Advocate , Income tax matters explained the legal aspect of the taxation regime and urged the taxpayers to come forward willingly and pay their taxes.
The webinar was moderated by Abhishek Kumar, Assistant Director, Press Information Bureau Jammu and the session was followed up by interaction with the audience for clarification of their queries. The webinar was attended by students, various officials and academicians.
