UDHAMPUR, Sept 2: Senior vice president of PHE Employees Association, Jammu province, Som Nath, strongly urged the Government to fulfill the genuine demands of the workers and employees of the PHE Department.
Mr Som Nath was addressing a largely attended protest demonstration of district executive and tehsil Udhampur working committees at PHE complex, here. He said the Minister concerned, it seems does now know about the plight of the workers, their exact number as also as for how many months they have not been paid their monthly dues. He added that the Minister should know his duties and responsibilities and work for smooth functioning of the Department and try not to force the workers for agitation.
Mr Som Nath appealed all associations of the PHE Department to unite and be ready for agitation as the Government was not willing to fulfill the genuine demands of the employees and workers of PHE Department.
The other long pending genuine demands highlighted in the meeting pertained to: Release of pending wages of 22 to 26 months; Regularization of all workers who have completed five years service as daily wager/ ITI and CP workers; Implementation of Minimum Wages Act by fixing wage rate for two categories viz regular and daily wagers; instead of providing Rs 500, 1000, 2000 per month to them; Making arrangement of sufficient staff to man several new water supply schemes on which crores of rupees have been expended but the requisite staff has not been provided so far; Change of designation as per nature of job actually being done by the workers; Immediate payment to those workers who have been engaged in lieu of land donated to the Department; Enhancement of wages to Rs 400 per day; and Making permanent the daily rated workers while implementing the fast track recruitment policy.
