PHE daily wager dies, workers protest with body

RAJOURI, Feb 11: A daily rated worker of the PHE Department today died while being shifted to Jammu while the workers staged massive protest outside PHE office complex along with his dead body demanding ex-gratia relief for the victim’s family.
The deceased has been identified as Mohd Shabir (40), Son of Feroz Din, resident of Kote Dharra near Palma in Rajouri. He was working as daily wager with the PHE Department. His family had offered free land to the PHE Department was raising water tank.
Official sources said that Mohd Shabir was also sitting on protest dharna at PHE complex but he was not keeping well for the last few weeks. The other workers sitting on dharna asked him to go to District Hospital, Rajouiri and get himself examined properly. On the way his condition deteriorated and medical staff at Rajouri hospital, refered him to GMC Jammu after providing preliminary treatment but the employee passed away near Chingus. His body was later removed to District Hospital Rajouri.
As the other employees sitting on dharna came to know about the matter, some of them rushed to the hospital and they later kept the body at the dharna site and started massive protest dharna and loud slogans against UT Administration, Advisor concerned, Chief Secretary and other senior officers. They also demanded ex-gratia/ relief assistance for the poor family.
Later, SHO, Executive Engineer, AEE PHE came to them and assured to provide some financial assistance at their own. Then after and hour the body was removed and movement of vehicles was allowed on the road.
Chief Engineer, PHE Jammu, Dr Sanjeev Kumar Chadha said that Shabir was already sick. He was suffering from Jaundice and taking treatment. He died while being shifted to Jammu hospital as reported by Eexcutive Engineer PHE, Rajouri.
