U, Mar 23: Hundreds of ITI trained daily rated workers (DRWs), need based workers and casual labourers under the banner of J&K PHE ITI and Non-ITI Daily Rated Workers Union today held a protest dharna in front of the office of the Chief Engineer, PHE, Jammu, to press for the redressal of their demands.
The daily rated workers from all over the Jammu province including Kathua, Samba, Akhnoor, Rajouri, Doda and Jammu, participated in the protest and raised slogans in support of their demands.
While addressing the protesting DRWs, Mohd Gafoor Dar, State president, J&K National Trade Union Front and chairman, Daily Rated Workers United Front said that the daily rated workers particularly engaged after 1994 are suffering badly due to their pending wages, which have not been released for years together despite repeated assurances from the authorities from time to time.
He stressed upon the State Government to come out with regularization policy for the daily rated workers engaged after 1994 and also for left over DRWs prior to 1994 so that the resentment among the DRWs may be removed to some extent.
He also urged the Government to consider their other demands including regularization policy for ITI trained casual labourers, need based workers and CP workers engaged after 1994, release of pending wages of need based workers and CP workers of various divisions, skilled rate of Rs 225 per day for ITI trained workers, Rs 175 per day for semi-skilled and Rs 150 for unskilled as per the latest SRO issued by Labour Commissioner.
Tanveer Hussain, Subhash Chander, Deepak Gupta, Manjit Singh were the others who addressing the protestors.
