JAMMU, Mar 14: The daily rated, ITI trained and Community Participation (CP) workers of the PHE department staged protest dharna in support of their long pending demands at BC Road PHE complex here today.
A large number of workers under the leadership of Tanveer Hussain assembled at PHE complex in the morning and started protest demonstration followed by day long dharna. The workers from various districts and PHE divisions from Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur and Reasi participated in the programme.
They were demanding framing of regularization policy for all community participation workers, daily rated, ITI trained and need base workers. They also demanded release of pending wages of nearly 35 months of these workers. They warned to intensify their struggle in near future.
The speakers alleged that despite assurances by the concerned then PHE Minister, Finance Minister and even the Chief Engineer, their issues have remained un-resolved. They demanded that a policy be framed for the regularization of all type of temporary workers and their fate be decided once for all.
Tanveer Hussain alleged that the workers have launched 72-hour strike and dharna from today onwards. The workers will intensify the struggle if the concerned higher authorities failed to address their long pending issues. He said the workers are on the roads. They are demanding their hard earned wages. It is unfortunate that Government instead of releasing their wages is adopting repressive measures. Many workers and their families are facing starvation but the Government is least bothered about their plight.
He appealed all the temporary workers to get united and join three-day protest dharna in large number to make their protest programme a grand success. Several other trade union leaders addressed the gathering.
