*Scholars warn to go on hunger strike

JAMMU, Mar 28: The protest by scholars over denying admission to various scholars in PhD courses including Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) Chairman Varinder Singh kept the University of Jammu campus charged today. However, the Jammu University administration has showed no solidarity with the scholars and remained unmoved over the issue.
Accusing the Jammu University authorities of spoiling the future of students and scholars, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Students Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) today staged demonstration on the campus and warned the Varsity administration of massive agitation if aggrieved scholars were not given immediate relief.
The protestors also burnt the copies of the University order which declared the PhD admission of various scholars including SSJAC chairman and senior scholar Varinder Singh Chib as invalid.
They raised slogans against the University administration and Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, blaming the administration of adopting dictatorial policies to harass the scholars from Jammu region.
Led by NSUI State president Neeraj Kundal, Kamal Magotra, State general secretary, Ajay Kumar, district president and senior scholar Pardhuman Singh, the protesting students out-rightly rejected University order which declared admission of SSJAC Chairman and other scholars as invalid and demanded to make the inquiry report of the Committee, constituted to look into the grievances of scholars and students public.
Pardhuman Singh, a senior scholar from Department of Dogri said the Dean and Convenor, Dogri Department had been harassing the scholars and students on one pretext and others and demanded his immediate removal.
They warned that they would go on hunger strike if the University failed to address the genuine issues of the students and scholars at the earliest.
Ajay Kumar, Varinder Kour, Saroj Saini and Nishi Slathia from Department of Strategic and Regional Studies demanded immediate removal of the Director for harassing students and calling them in-efficient.
