BHADARWAH, Nov 11: A PG student hailing from Chakka area of Bhadarwah has appealed to Governor Satya Pal Malik and DGP Dilbagh Singh to take strict action against her husband and in-laws for harassing her for giving birth to girl child and dowry demand.
Addressing a press conference, a 24-year-old PG student of Jammu University Asma said that a case of harassment has been registered against her husband and in-laws after she was allegedly tortured for almost a year and subsequently driven out of home for having a girl child.
“Post marriage, everything went well for a few months. “When my in-laws came to know that I am pregnant and carrying a girl child in my womb they started harassing me and even forced me to abort my child”, she added.
Asma, whose father Tariq Hussain Zarger is a daily wage labourer working with GREF, was married in 2016 to Mohammad Amjad Mir of Salwa Kund in Mehdhar area of Poonch, presently residing in Rajeev Nagar locality of Narwal Jammu.
She further stated that in November 2017, when she gave birth to a girl, the harassment and demand for dowry increased and finally on November 1 her in-laws tried to set the house on fire by locking her and her toddler in the room. “I gathered all the strength and managed to break the door and save me and my daughter’s life but I was driven out of home on the same day”, said Asma, who is now living with her parents in Chakka area of Bhadarwah.
Seeking justice, Asma urged the Governor Satya Pal Malik and DGP Dilbagh Singh to take strict action in a case registered under FIR Number 276/18 under sections 498-A, 323, 328 and 109 RPC with Police Station Bahu Fort against Mohammad Amjad Mir (husband), Mohammad Sager Mir (father-in-law), Saja Begum (mother-in-law), Sameena Begum (sister-in-Law) and Zahoor Ahmed Shah (brother-in-law of husband).
