JAMMU, Aug 24: The Oil tanker operators from Jammu region today restored the petrol/ diesel supply to Kashmir region after four days’ of strike.
The decision was taken by the oil tanker operators after, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, gave them assurance in writing that Government would provide full security cover to the tanker drivers and cleaners and their vehicles operating in Kashmir valley.
K D Wani, president All J&K Oil Tanker Drivers & Cleaners Union told the Excelsior that today again a meeting of the representatives of their body was held with the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu besides others wherein, a written assurance from the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir regarding full security cover to the drivers and tankers was given.
” They had already accepted our other two demands of compensation for the damaged vehicles and relief for injured drivers. Our third demand has also been accepted. Now, we have decided to call-off strike fully. The supplies to Kashmir and Ladakh have been resumed,” Wani added.
Anan Sharma, president All J&K Oil Tanker Owners Association said that Government has owned the responsibility of drivers and vehicles and they have given in writing as well. The Army authorities have taken the responsibility of Army fuel supplies. Their supply tankers will move in their own convoy. For civil supplies, CRPF and J&K Police will provide the security cover to the tankers in Kashmir . He said the supplies to Kashmir were resumed this afternoon. The security agencies have devised new strategy by setting up security grids. It is hoped that security will be fool proof this time,” Mr Sharma added.
