Performance, infrastructural needs of Leh schools reviewed

LEH, Jan 4: On the second day of the annual review meeting of Education sector of Leh district, the academic performance and infrastructural needs of all the six Higher Secondary Schools, 35 Middle Schools and 33 Primary Schools of Nubra Sub Division and all the remaining Government schools of Khaltsi and Kharu Sub Division and other Government schools nearby Leh were reviewed under the chairmanship of Executive Councillor for Education Konchok Stanzin.
The meeting was attended by Councillors of LAHDC, Leh, officers of Education Department Leh, including Principals and Headmasters, headed by DEPO Leh Tsethan Dorjey and Principal DIET Leh, Konchok Angmo.
The meeting decided to constitute a monitoring committee at district and zonal level which will constantly monitor the functioning of all the Government schools in future. The meeting also decided to introduce Social Emotional Ethical (SEE) Learning programme in Leh district developed under the guidance of 14th Dalai Lama for contemplative sciences and compassion-based ethics and for that four teachers will be deputed to Karnataka for training as master resource person on January 20. The quarterly progress report of schools from all the ZEOs, Principals and Headmasters was also made mandatory from now.
Addressing the meeting, EC Konchok appealed everyone to come forward in strengthening Government schools saying that Government schools have all the required resources to provide affordable and quality education but need of the hour is to improve the management of resources. He assured that all genuine demands and issues of Government schools will be resolved in near further as there will be no shortage of funds in new setup of UT Ladakh.
All the Councillors, Principals and Headmasters highlighted the demands and issues of Government schools in their respective constituencies and put forth their constructive and valuable suggestions and feedbacks for improvement of education in Leh district.
