Rajouri, Aug 7: People from village Garhi and adjoining areas held strong protest against the local administration and disrupted movement of traffic on the road for over an hour today.
Reports said the people, mostly belonging to the SC community, led by local Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha leader Master Som Raj assembled at Bus Stand Nowshera during the day and started protest. They were raising slogans against local administration and police. The agitating people alleged that some influential people were not allowing them to collect `Bazri’ (pebbles) for the nallas and had been using their own JCBs for the same activity.
They further alleged that some poor families of this area were doing this activity for the last many decades and feeding their families. Their livelihood has been affected with the activities of the musclemen. They alleged that these mafia men in connivance with the local police and few officers in the administration were carrying on their illegal mining activity despite ban by the higher authorities.
Later, SDPO Nowshera Pardeep Singh and Tehsildar rushed to the spot and assured action to the agitating people in this regard. Then they lifted dharna after one and half hour and cleared the road.
