RAMBAN, Dec 7: Frustrated with frequent breakdown of power transformer, villagers of Seri today held a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) and disrupted traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
About 20-25 residents (mostly women) of village Seri about three kilometers from here this morning assembled on National Highway (NH) and staged a protest against PDD authorities. The protesters also blocked the National Highway and disrupted traffic movement for about 30 minutes.
They alleged that a week ago the power transformer of the area has broken down and after a gap of many days, the power was restored only yesterday by repairing the transformer, which did not last for even half an hour and broke down just after 20 minutes.
The irate residents threatened total blockage of the busy National Highway in case the power supply is not restored at the earliest in the area.
The protestors later dispersed after Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Basheer Ahmed Dar, reached the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring that he will himself took up the matter with higher authorities of PDD for proper redressal.
