People protest death of man, block road at Maheshpura

JAMMU, Sept 2: The family members, relatives and neighbours of the man, who died today of electric shock due to alleged negligence of PDD officials, blocked the road at Maheshpura Chowk, Bakshi Nagar for about two hours demanding Government job for one of his kin besides compensation to the bereaved family.
According to reports, the man identified as Ravi Singh (50) son of Gitam Singh, resident of Smailpur (Nagbani) received severe electric shock this morning after he came in contact with a live wire fallen on his field where he had gone for cutting green fodder for his livestock.
In unconscious condition, the family members shifted him to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where doctors declared him as brought dead. As soon as the body was handed over to the family members after conducting post mortem, they put the body at Maheshpura Chowk and held a strong protest against PDD for alleged negligence. They were demanding Government job for one of the family members besides adequate compensation for the family.
The protesters disrupted the traffic movement on the busy Maheshpura Chowk for over two hours and raised slogans against PDD for their alleged negligence.
On getting information, senior officers of the police, civic administration and PDD including Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Arun Manhas and XEn, PDD, Sanjay Sharma, reached the spot and pacified the protesters. The ADC Jammu announced adequate compensation for the family from Red Cross fund and assured that the matter will be taken up with the Government for bearing education expenses of the children of the deceased.
The PDD XEn also announced to engage one of the family members of the deceased man as need based worker in the department and adequate compensation by doing collection from PDD employees.
Thereafter, the protesters dispersed with the dead body and later cremated it. Meanwhile, a case of negligence has been registered against PDD at police station Domana.
