People protest over alleged idol ‘desecration’

JAMMU, June 22: People today held protest over alleged idol ‘desecration’ in a temple at Trikuta Nagar.
A large number of people assembled outside Hanuman Temple at Trikuta Nagar Extension and held protest.
Demanding immediate arrest of the accused involved in alleged desecration of idol, the protesters blocked the road by burning the tyres.

“Trouble began in the morning when few devotees saw the idol of Hanuman broken into pieces in a temple located at Trikuta Nagar, here”, police sources said, adding that as the news spread, the residents took to streets and held protest.
When contacted SDPO East Arun Jamwal said that in this connection a case under Section 295 RPC has been registered at police station Trikuta Nagar and concerned SHO Bharat Sharma himself is supervising the investigation.
He said as 2 ‘Khadaun’ and the donation box are intact in the temple, so prima facie it does not appear to be mischief of any thief.
The officer told that Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta and MLC Vikram Randhawa also visited the spot, interacted with the protesting people and pacified them by assuring proper investigation into the matter.
