RAJOURI, Apr 28: The villagers from Muradpur and adjoining areas held strong protest demonstration against PHE authorities and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for about two hours.
The villagers in large number, including women and children led by village Sarpanch Babu Ram Sharma, came out on the road at Muradpur, about 3 kms from the town on Rajouri-Jammu road and raised barricades at around 10 am today. They were shouting slogans against PHE authorities for their failure to restore water supply to the area.
The villagers were also raising slogans against PHE Minister, Chief Engineer Jammu and concerned Executive Engineer Rajouri. They alleged that motor of the pumping station went out of order about two weeks ago and despite request to the field staff, the water supply could not be restored. They alleged that this motor often remains out of order and for the last two years, the people were facing this problem.
Later, DySP Headquarters Hamid Choudhary and SHO Rajouri Yashpal Jamwal reached the spot and assured the people to take up their issue with the concerned higher authorities. The people then lifted dharna with the condition that if the water supply is not restored by Tuesday evening, they will launch bigger agitation.
