People protest against PDD

VIJAYPUR, July 16: Agitated over non-availability of power supply, hundreds of people today staged protest demonstration in Ramgarh area against the Power Development Department (PDD), ahead of paddy cultivation.
The protesters, amid shouting slogans blocked the road to express anger, alleged that the power Receiving Station 10 MVA has been damaged and it has not been repaired by the PDD even as a week has passed.
Addressing the protesters, former Minister and general secretary of Congress Manjit Singh said the people have been facing shortage of power supply and unscheduled power cuts for over eight hours daily.
In view of paddy season, he said, the administration and PDD should ensure proper supply of electricity for the farmers so that they should not suffer.
He said that earlier too people had to come on roads and they protested against the administration and then, they were assured that the PDD would address the concern of the people till Monday.
Even as over many days have passed, he said, the administration has not done anything forcing the people to come on roads.
SDM Vijaypur,Executive Enigneer PDD Vijaypur, Tehsilar Ramgarh, Xen STD also visited the demonstration site and assured that the administration would seriously look into the demand. The protesters warned that if their demand would not be accepted within two days, they would block Jammu Pathankote National Highway.
