UDHAMPUR, Feb 21: The local villagers of Loundna in Battal Balian area of Udhampur held protest against Pollution Control Board (PCB) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department here today.
The protesting people raised slogans against District Administration, PHE and PCB authorities for declaring water of the Bowali (natural spring) of Bawa Loundna Devsthan as unfit for consumption after harmful.
The locals claimed that lot of cases of jaundice and other skin diseases are cured with the water of this Bowli at this Devsthan. They said pollution here has been caused due to industrial units like insecticides and cement etc. Therefore, Pollution Control Board as well as Industries Department are the prime culprits. This historical Bowli and it is believed that by bathing here many diseases are cured.
They said many industrial units are installed near the Bowli and during night units dispose off their waste into a Nallah passing near the Bowli. This may has caused pollution in the Bowli. The PHE officials say that they sent the water sample for lab test after direction of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur. It was convyed that water has been polluted either by the leakage from septic tank or some chemicals.
