People protest against digging of heritage site

JAMMU, Aug 7: Hundreds of local residents of Talab Tillo gathered at the Poonch House ground to protest against the digging of heritage ground.
Recently, on order of DC Jammu, the digging work was initiated in the ground of Poonch House for the construction of Grid Station.
On Saturday, the work was immediately stopped by the people and now they gathered in the ground against digging of the ground.
Former BJP president and former Minister, Sat Sharma, councilor Ward 41, Sanjay Baru, councilor Ward 40, Neelam Nargotra, J&K BJP media in charge, Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, district president, Munish Khajuria, Principal Fine Arts College, Prof. Shoaib Malik, senior staff of college, prominent locals and others were present on the occasion.
People protested the initiation of construction work by saying that this ground belongs to the heritage and hence should not be ruined. They said that the hundreds of students study and practice various fine arts in the open ground here and thus their studies will be affected. They said that they are not against the construction of Grid Station and it can be shifted anywhere else.
They further added that this is the only ground available in this area which can be utilized for the park or play ground for the children.
Sat Sharma pacified the local residents and assured them that they will not allow anyone to ruin the heritage site. He said that the heritage is to be preserved and not to be desecrated. He maintained that the development is necessary at the ground level but at the same time, the sanctity of the heritage sites is to be maintained at all costs. He said that he along with the local councilors and other senior leaders will take up the matter with the authorities for the shifting of Grid Station.
Sanjay Baru said that a State/JDA Land is available in Durga Nagar, area of the same Ward where the Grid Station can be constructed. He said that they will meet the district administration on Monday and will not relent without finding solution.
Neelam Nargotra, said that this is only land feasible for the children to play or for the park purpose.
Munish Khajuria said that BJP is always with the masses whether in development works or public issues.
