RAMBAN, Feb 11: People of Sub Division Gool held protest demonstration against merging their Sub Division into Banihal and Ramban assembly constituency.
They demanded separate Gool-Gandhari assembly constituency.
Hundreds of people and leaders from all the political parties including District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Ramban, Block Development Counsellors (BDCs) and elected Panchayat Representatives (PRIs) of the Sub Division participated in the protest rally.
They were protesting against the draft proposal of Jammu and Kashmir Delimitation Commission.
They said that Gool is merged with Banihal which is around 100 kilometer away from Gool whereas Sangaldan is merged with Ramban assembly constituency which is hardly 33 kilometer away from Sangaldan.
DDC chairperson Ramban Dr Shamshada Shan who also belongs to Gool led the protest and said that people of the Sub Division Gool rejected the proposed draft report of Delimitation Commission.
She said that she along with other sections of society had already submitted a memorandum to the penal of Jammu and Kashmir Delimitation Commission on their visit to Kishtwar in which on behalf of people and elected representatives we had demanded creation of a separate Gool Gandhari constituency. But the proposed draft report was totally adverse and Sub Division Gool was divided into two parts and merged with Banihal and Ramban, she maintained.
The DDC chairperson said people of the Gool demanded a separate Gool-Gandhari constituency and if this is not possible for the commission then merge the whole Gool Sangaldan with Ramban and create a new Gool Ramban constituency.
She threatened if their demand is not fulfilled they will come on roads and launch agitation.
Earlier, the people of Pogal and Paristan also held protests against the Delimitation Commission draft report at Ukhral.
