KATHUA, Sept 11: Residents of Basohli town today put a lock on the office of Assistant Executive Engineer PHE and held protest demonstration against the department staff for its negligence and failure to provide hygienic water to the people of the area.
A large number of people led by the Municipal Committee members and several Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area thronged the PHE office in the morning and locked it. The AEE had not reached the office then while other staff was present there. After putting lock, they started protest demonstration against the AEE, Executive Engineer PHE Kathua, SE and the Chief Engineer besides PHE Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din.
They alleged that for the last two weeks, muddy water supply was being provided to the people of the area. They said the concerned staff was informed about the matter and requested to rectify the fault and ensure hygienic drinking water but they did not bother. Even the concerned AEE took it lightly and stated that during rainy season it happens.
Irate people kept the PHE office locked for over two and half hours. AEE concerned later reached the office but the people refused to listen to him. Tehsildar Basohli Jeevan Lal later intervened. He talked to SE PHE, Kathua and Chief Engineer in telephone and apprised them of the matter. They assured the agitating public that leakage in the water pipes will be identified and removed within a couple of days and hygienic water supply will be ensured shortly. On their assurance, the people lifted dharna.
