People living close to the border either with China or Pakistan in the State of Jammu and Kashmir are handicapped in many ways. Roads, electric power, water supply and emergency medical services are generally either lacking or largely inadequate. It is not easy for them to send their delegations of and on to the authorities either in Srinagar, Jammu or New Delhi to press for solution of their problems and needs. This is true in the case of Changthan-Ladakh area which is closest to China border. A delegation of the residents of this extreme border area led by the MP called on the Minister of State for Home Affairs and placed before him the urgent demands of the people. It demanded Concrete House Construction Scheme for border people especially for Demjok and Chumur, effective implementation of Welfare Schemes for Border living people, earliest construction of connecting roads, installation of mobile and television towers and other basic amenities in border areas of Ladakh
It is surprising that these elementary facilities have not been provided to the people who are stationed at a place where they are also performing the duty of watchmen keeping an eye on the border. These border dwellers have always stood by the nation in times of peace and war. They should be considered the most prestigious people and provided with facilities and amenities more than any other area of the State. We strongly impress upon the authorities to redress the grievances of these border people who are making huge scarifies to keep vigil on our farthest borders. We salute their courage and determination as great patriotic people.
