People grieves tragic death of two soldiers in Siachen

MADURAI : People of Chokkathevanpatti village in Madurai district sunk into deep grief over the tragic death of son of the soil Sepoy G.Ganesan, attached to the Madras Regiment of Indian Army in an avalanche at Siachen.
Gloom descended in Chokkathevanpatti village, after Television channels flashed the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Lt General D.S.Hooda announcement that it is a tragic event and we salute the soldiers who braved all challenges to guard our frontiers and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
One Junior Commissioned Officer and nine Jawans of the Army’s 19 Madras batallion had been martyred after an avalanche struck their post at 19,600 feet on the Actual Ground Position Line the border with Pakistan at Siachen glacier on Wednesday last.
A large number of people gathered at the house of Ganesan and consoled the family members. The family members claimed that they have not received any official communication from the Army.
Ganesan had spoken to his father Ganapathy last week and informed him that he is guarding the country in an extreme coldest spot and was planning to visit native sometime before March. The entire village mourns the demise of Ganesan and were awaiting to get the body. The scene was similar in the home of Lance Havildar S.Kumar at the non-descript Kumanan Thozhu village in Southern district of Theni. Kumar was also one among the 10 soldiers who martyred in Siachen. The entire village was in tears after hearing the demise of Kumar.
His father Srinivasan, a farmer said Kumar completed his service two months ago, but he extended his service for two more years. Kumar recently spoke to his wife Kavitha, who is working in a private school that he will come to the native later this month. But, his demise came as a rude shock not only to his family, but to the entire village. (AGENCIES)
