JAMMU, Apr 24: Stating that as a MLA and former Minister he left no stone unturned in converting Gandhi Nagar into a model constituency of the State, Raman Bhalla today said that good work done by him could not be continued and now people in different parts of constituency are even struggling for basic amenities.
He disclosed that during his tenure, with commissioning of a number of water supply schemes in the Gandhi Nagar constituency, people started getting safe and hygienic drinking water, new ration stores had been opened and the whole constituency had been connected through a network of roads and lanes.
“Apart from this, around 25 tube-wells were installed in various localities of the constituency to overcome water- crisis and electrification of number of areas in the constituency was done by getting a number of electric poles and transformers installed and upgraded”, Bhalla said while addressing a public meeting in Nai Basti area of Gandhi Nagar constituency as a part of his mass contact programme wherein he visits door to door to listen to grievances of people of constituency.
Bhalla regretted that the good work done by him was not continued and now the people of the constituency are not getting even basic facilities. He said that the work to set up a modern drainage system, which was started four months ago, has not been resumed at Nai Basti due to which there is resentment among the residents against the Government.
Bhalla further said that the area was supposed to be the model commercial area of the temple city, but the failure of the civic authorities to maintain sanitation in the lanes, by lanes and delay in improving infrastructure has created unhealthy conditions.
Expressing serious concern over scarcity of essential commodities, grim power and water supply, former Minister said that the administration must come out of deep slumber and infuse responsiveness and an element of accountability in its machinery in order to mitigate the sufferings of people.
