JAMMU, Aug 13: To maintain the traditional brotherhood, peace and communal amity for which the Jammu has always given lead in testing times, a peace march was taken out today during the curfew relaxation period by the people from all walks of life.
The peace march started from Janipur Colony and after reaching the Main Chowk it moved from different markets and dispersed in the colony later.
Hundreds of people from Hindu, Muslim and Sikh communities joined the peace march and reaffirming their resolve to frustrate the designs of those who want to disturb the peace in the Jammu region also.
The marchers with National Tricolour and pla-cards in their hands were raising slogans in support of peace, communal harmony and brotherhood saying the people of Jammu will not allow the designs of those elements to succeed who want to disturb peace in the region.
The pla –cards which peace marchers hold in their hands read national unity Zindabad, we want peace, Hindu Muslim, Sikh Isai Aapas  Mian Hain Bhai, Bhai,  peace march etc.
Earlier the prominent citizens of the area belonging to different communities held a meeting at Police Station Janipur in which grave concern was expressed over the prevailing situation. They decided to take out a peace rally in the area to maintain brotherhood and communal amity.
Pradesh Youth Congress today took out a peace march at Chandan Vihar, Lakshmi Nagar and Muthi area. The march was led by president Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha Constituency, Satish Sharma and a large number of youth participated in it. They stressed on maintaining peace and communal amity at all costs.
To maintain the traditional brotherhood and peace a meeting of prominent people was organized at Bhaleesa today in which an appeal was made to the people not to give an ear to rumors and defeat the designs of those who want to divide the society on the name of religion.
A candle march for restoration of peace was taken out by youth in Vijaypur from Vijaypur Canal. The march after passing through Vijaypur market culminated at Chowk. The marchers were shouting slogans in support of peace, against the anti-social and anti-national elements and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, social activist, Nana Ji Raina has also appealed people to maintain peace and brotherhood to defeat the designs of vested elements and not to ear rumour mongers.
In view of  flaring up of  communal tension after Kishtwar incident, peace processions were taken out by the leaders of  all the communities and political parties at Poonch and members of Sikh bodies in the city here.
A large number of people led by leaders from various communities, representatives from different political parties and officers in the district administration assembled at Pritam Park Poonch at around 11 am today and then started peace march in the entire Poonch city. They were issuing appeal to the people to maintain communal harmony and peace in the area.
DC Poonch Sajjad Ahmed Khan, SP Shamsheer Hussain, Additional DC and other officers were also accompanying. After passing through various markets and localities/ mohallas the peace march culminated at `Fawara  Chowk’ where leaders of various communities addressed gathering and appealed the people to maintain age old traditions of  co-existence, communal harmony and peace. They pledged that they will not allow the anti-social and anti-national elements to succeed in their designs to disturb peace.
Members of Sikh community from various organizations led by former State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board (SGPB) president, Sudershan Singh Wazir assembled at Digiana Ashram today and took out a peace march. The members were carrying banners and placards issuing appeal to the people to maintain peace and communal harmony at any cost. The members of the minority community were also raising slogans in support of peace and demanding action against the culprits responsible for the Kishtwar violence. They demanded a stringent action against those responsible for it. The procession culminated at Satwari Chowk. Prominent among others accompanying included T S Tony, Avtar Singh Khalsa, Mohinder Singh, Gajan  Singh, Paramjit Singh, R S Bijral and Amrik Singh Reen.
