SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Advocating for a united front to devise a common strategy for seeking restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Democratic Party today said that people of the erstwhile State had rejected the ” unilateral decision” of August 05, 2019 by New Delhi then, and continue to reject it even now.
In a statement issued here today, Party’s women’s Wing president, Safeena Beigh said that the party’s’ patron Muzaffer Hussain Beigh had right from the beginning stressed for a joint and unified efforts to deal with the situation that arose out of the controversial August 5 decision.
” Beigh sahib has been right from the beginning- when all the leaders including Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were under detention- suggesting that a centralized approach involving all the political parties needs to be adopted to devise a strategy. You go through his earlier interviews after the 5th Aug.2019, he has maintained that let all the political leaders under detention get released first and then hold a joint meeting to devise collective future strategy”. Safeena Beigh added.
While supporting the Joint statement issued by six political parties in the light of Gupkar Declaration on Saturday, she said , her party would support every attempt that represents the people’s aspirations.
Pertinently the Gupkar Declaration which was adopted by most of the political parties on Aug. 04, 2019- a day before the New Delhi done away with the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the State into two union territories- was drafted by her husband and PDP Patron Muzaffer Hussain Beigh, she claimed.
She said, this was not about the political parties or their manifesto but this represented the aspirations of the people of the Jammu and Kashmir. Safeena added that double standards won’t work, and said, Center cannot have different parameters for Nagaland and Jammu and Kashmir.
While asking local Unit of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) to peruse the case with Center as the decision, according to her- would hurt Jammu the most, Safeena said that they (J&K BJP) must also realize that this will affect Jammu more than anybody else.
“Look We all living in J&K belong to different ethnic groups. And Dogra is also an ethnic community. They must realize that they will be affected more than anybody else, be it land, jobs or another thing.” She said.
