RAJOURI, May 28: Irate public today held strong protest against the PDD authorities for unscheduled power cuts and locked them for several hours in Sunderbani today.
Reports said that after the strong protest by the members of civil society and locals of the town, Tehsildar Sunderbani Devinder Pal organized a meeting of the PDD officials with the civil society members. During the discussions, the members were not satisfied with the response of the PDD officials led by AEE V K Sharma and AE Anil Gautam. Three JEs were also accompanying. A large crowd of locals was also waiting outside the venue in the Tehsil complex.
As the engineers claimed that they were bound by the instructions from the top and have to go by the schedule provided for curtailment, the people got agitated and put a lock on the gate and locked them. They started strong protest demonstration. They public alleged that 15-16 hour cut was being imposed and they were fed up of the system. Later, they moved to the Jammu-Poonch highway and sat on dharna. They disrupted movement of traffic. SHO tried to pacify them but they kept on agitating. Later, SDM Nowshera Rajinder Khajuria rushed to the spot and with his intervention, they opened the road after two hours at around 7 pm. He assured to take up the issue with the higher authorities.
