JAMMU, May 29: J&K BJP Media in charge, Dr. Pardeep Mahotra has expressed grave concern over the worsening power crisis in Jammu & Kashmir and called upon the Power Development Department (PDD) to take urgent and concrete measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, particularly in the Jammu region, where people are struggling amid an intense heatwave and soaring temperatures.
Expressing serious concern over the frequent power outages and unscheduled cuts during peak Summer, Dr. Pardeep said that despite massive infrastructural development and technological advancements witnessed in Jammu & Kashmir in recent years, the prevailing electricity crisis has exposed serious gaps in planning, preparedness, and power management. He said that frequent power outages during peak Summer have severely affected daily life, exposing serious deficiencies in power management despite significant infrastructural and technological advancements made in recent years.
Dr. Pardeep said that electricity is no longer a luxury but an essential lifeline for households, hospitals, businesses, students, farmers, and industries alike. With temperatures soaring to record levels, prolonged power cuts are making life miserable for the common people. The Government machinery cannot afford a reactive approach where action begins only after the system collapses and the public suffers, he said.
Dr. Pardeep stressed that the PDD must adopt preventive and technology-driven mechanisms to curb transmission losses, electricity leakages, and power theft. He called for the constitution of dedicated emergency response teams equipped with modern monitoring systems, smart grid technologies, AI-based fault detection, and real-time surveillance to identify potential breakdowns before they escalate into major disruptions.
Dr. Pardeep further emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the existing power infrastructure, including timely maintenance of transformers, transmission lines, and distribution networks, especially before and during peak Summer demand.
