JAMMU, Dec 1: The casual and daily rated workers of PDD/ JPDCL, PDC and TDL today held strong protest demonstration on the third consecutive day today in front of the office of Managing Director, Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd, near Panama Chowk here today.
Led by Akhil Sharma, president All Jammu Province Casual Labour/ Workers Union, Tanveer and others, the workers in large number from various offices, including Divisions, Sub Divisions, Power Stations assembled in the office premises of MD, JPDCL /PDD and launched day long protest demonstration followed by dharna. It was their 72-hours protest programme.
They were raising slogans in support of their pending demands. Their major demands included regularization, release of pending 30 months’ wages of 841 workers, who are working without salary. The Union has also raised the issue of seniority list of casual labourers which is not being prepared in combine with other daily wagers, as the salary /wages of the both is drawn from the same wage head No. 364. They said there are 3862 casual labourers while 1320 daily wagers. In Kashmir province, their combined list has already been prepared and released, they added.
Union president declared that they have launched 72-hours strike and if needed they will intensify the same. He asked the workers to remain united for their common cause.
Prominent among those who addressed the gathering included- Mukesh Kumar, Swami Raj, Bilal Ahmed, Shamsher Singh, Gurmail Singh, Abdul Gani, Shabir Ahmed and oters.
