PDD intensifies drive against power theft

JAMMU, June 2: Intensi-fying the drive against power theft, Electric M&RE Division-II, Gandhi Nagar of Power Development Department (PDD) under the guidance of PD Singh, Executive Engineer, conducted a total of 161 inspections in Green Belt Sub Division.
A total of five inspection teams were constituted for the purpose, The teams were headed by Sardari Lal, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) along with Assistant Engineer, Feeder managers and other field staff.
In Narwal Section, a total of 32 consumers were inspected out of which 11 were found using Air Conditioners (ACs) with illegally bypassed service lines while in Sainik Colony, 24 consumers out of 49 inspected were found having illegal AC connections. 13 electric heaters were also found in illegal use in some jhuggies in Sainik Colony section. All the heaters were destroyed and illegal service lines removed.
The team inspected 35 commercial consumers in Bahu Plaza out of which 5 were having illegal service lines. They were advised to regularize their connections and warned of registration of FIR if found connected in future. Besides, 20 consumers’ load was found in excess and they were penalized as per tariff.
In Nanak Nagar, the team inspected 20 domestic/commercial consumers out of which 5 were found having illegal connections. Eight consumers’ load was also found in excess. The action was taken against the defaulters.
The team inspected 30 consumers in Extension Gandhi Nagar, where variation was found in load of two consumers. Besides, a total of 26 kw illegal/unauthorized load being used, was regularized. All defaulters were penalized under appropriate clause of J&K State Electricity Act.
Meanwhile, EMRE-III, Jammu adopted multiple measures on Day 3 of the ‘Inspection Week’ by conducting night raids as well to check power theft. During the day time, reportedly, a total of 109 inspections were conducted, detecting 54 irregularities and removing 65 kw illegal load from the system while night raids were still going on in various areas with their reports awaited.
Earlier during the day, 7 teams from Sub-Division-Janipur conducted 96 inspections in Dogra Nagar, Lower Roop Nagar, Thather, Postal Colony, Roop Nagar and other adjoining areas under the leadership of Ashish Badyal, AEE. Likewise, a team from Sub-Division-Canal under the leadership of Vivek Gupta, AEE conducted 13 inspections in Udheywala and adjoining areas, removing more than 20 illegal ACs and disconnecting power supply to 16 Jhuggies.
