SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Even as the defunct meter installed at a ply factory in Qazigund’s Nipora Mirbazar has resulted in power theft, the PDD is yet to repair the same while also it has not initiated any action against the erring officials.
Earlier on November 24, Excelsior had carried a report stating how the officials of the PDD were facilitating power theft in the district particularly in the industrial areas. The spot which was checked by the PDD team had a defunct metre installed.
The owner of the factory had stated that the metre was lying defunct for the last two days and he had brought the same into the notice of the PDD. However, the official sources told Excelsior that the metre was made defunct deliberately and there was a theft of electricity-facilitated by the certain officials-going on.
However, the team that inspected the spot said that the metre needs to be taken to the lab which would reveal the exact date on which the metre shut down or was made to shut down.
Interestingly, since then, the PDD has not bothered to carry out the required checks on the metre that has been made defunct, neither has it bothered to install a new one to keep a track of electricity consumed. It is pertinent to mention here that the factory has an agreement load of 500kw.
After the theft was reported, the department had also imitated an internal inquiry the report of which is yet to be made public let alone the action taken in this regard.
The Superintending Engineer (SE), Ghulam Rasool told EXCELSIOR that the metre has not been replaced yet and that the action will be taken against those involved. “I have asked the concerned AEE to see to it; it will be taken care of soon,” he said.
