JAMMU, Aug 21: A team of senior Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) members led by its president, Ghulam Ahmed Mir today visited Balakote villages in Poonch where six persons were killed in Pakistani shelling on August 15.
Accompanied by senior Congress leaders Sham Lal Sharma, Madan Lal Sharma, Ravinder Sharma, Ch Mohd Akram, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Jahangir Mir, Ch Bashir Naaz, Murtaza Khan and others, they visited Morah Basooni (Balakote) in Poonch where six persons were killed and several others injured by shelling from across the border by Pakistan Army.
The Congress team straight way went to affected area of Balakote in Mendhar and met the victims’ family members and other prominent people including Sarpanchs, Panchs, Numberdars and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to victims families. Mr Mir also conveyed heartfelt condolences and deep sympathy on behalf of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi, as the latter (Rahul Gandhi) is scheduled to visit the area to meet the affected families. They also enquired about the condition of injured.
Mir strongly condemned Pakistan for unprovoked firing from across the border and expressed deep shock and anguish over the loss of lives. He regretted that on Independence Day of the Country, Pakistan resorted to shelling causing casualties and injuries to innocent people. He said that for the last one year the escalation of border firing has caused casualties and injuries to security personnel as well as civil population.
Later, PCC chief held interaction with local Congress leaders and the prominent people at Bhimber Gali (BG) and discussed overall situation in the area. They also discussed the scheduled visit of Rahul Gandhi on August 26.
