PCC chief assails Govt for ‘undemocratic style’ of working

JAMMU, Feb13: Reacting to the notification to the elections to more than, 30, 000 vacancies to Panchayats, JKPCC president GA Mir has taken strong exception to the `undemocratic style’ of working of the Government which has not bothered about the participation of opposition in these bodies who are either detained or debarred from carrying out the desired political activities especially in Kashmir Valley where majority of seats are going to the polls.
Terming the entire exercise as a mere eyewash, especially in Kashmir Valley in the absence of participation of any conducive atmosphere for the opposition parties to carry out any sort of political activities in view of various kinds of restrictions by the Government, PCC chief said that it will be another mockery of democracy on party basis without even consulting or facilitating them to carryout political activities.
Mir said that 90% of these vacancies are in Kashmir Valley where top leaders of either detained or house arrest and there is no political activity having taken place in most parts of state, particularly in the Valley since August 4, 2019 till date.
The Government once again announced holding of elections to Panchayats that too on political basis like in the past without releasing or allowing political leaders to carry out any sort of activity. The Government even held the elections to the VDC in Kashmir Valley where more than 60% vacant seats were unfilled. This is joke with the electoral system and insult to the democratic system of our country, he added.
