SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board (PCB) today organized a day-long workshop for brick kiln owners of Kashmir division here.
The programme presided over by Chairman PCB, Suresh Chugh was aimed to create awareness among the brick kiln owners on new environmental norms for brick kilns and desired change in technology from Bull Trench to Zig Zag Brick Kiln one.
On the occasion, participants were apprised about the new technology of Zig Zag to be adopted by brick kiln owners which is in sync with the norms of the Environmental Protection Act, 1986. They were also sensitized about the importance of switching over to new technology for bringing down the emission level of suspended particulate matters to reduce air pollution.
Brick kiln owners, on the occasion, welcomed the initiative taken by the PCB in guiding them about the new technology and apprised that some of them have already shifted to Zig Zag technology.
They also highlighted various issues with regard to environmental clearances and renewal of their licenses.
Legal Advisor M.M. Shah, Environmental Engineer J. N. Sharma, AEE, Divisional Officers of PCB, District Presidents and members of Brick Kiln Association Kashmir were present on the occasion. Member Secretary B M Sharma PCB, was also present on the occasion.
