JAMMU: Former Army Chief General V K Singh may not appear in person before the Legislative Council privilege committee following summons issued against him in payoff allegations to some of the ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, sources said today.
Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council had issued fresh summons for January 22 to the former Army Chief General V K Singh for his alleged remarks about payoffs to state politicians. Sources said the former Army Chief may not appear in person before the committee adding, “The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul today referred the Breach of Privilege Notice (signed by 15 Ministers/Members) against Gen Singh alongwith the reply received from him to the committee on Privileges of the Assembly for further examination, investigation and report”.
Earlier Gen Singh was asked to appear in person on January 9. The summoning is besides a breach of privilege pending against Gen Singh with Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul, who issued notice on October 24, 2013 to the General asking him to explain his alleged remarks on pay-offs to some ministers from the Army’s secret funds during his tenure. The notice was issued in response to a privilege motion moved against the former Army Chief by 15 ministers and MLAs. Gen Singh however, had submitted his reply alongwith a CD, which was made public by the Speaker’s office. (AGENCIES)
