Pay auto-rickshaw charges as per meter, fare chart: RTO to people

JAMMU, Oct 24: Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) realized a fine of Rs 6.37 lakh from the defaulters of Motor Vehicle Act 1988.
According to official spokesperson, RTO Jammu AK Khajuria and his teams comprising of Mohammad Saleem, ARTO and Punica, ARTO Flying Squad Jammu, conducted extensive checking of the vehicles in Jammu, Vijaypur and other parts of the National Highway and realized a fine of Rs 6.37 lakh from the violators of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The checking teams included Motor Vehicles Inspectors, Sajad Zaheer, Abnish Sharma, Vinod Chalotra, Surinder Kumar, Shammi Kumar and Param Veer Singh.
During the extensive checking, about 263 vehicles including buses, trucks and other load carriers were checked and around 155 vehicles were compounded on the spot by the teams. Besides this, around 30 vehicles were challaned by the teams.
These vehicles were challaned/ compounded for the offences of overloading, payload/passengers, violations of route permits conditions, pollution norms, fitness and other offences under MV Act, 1988.
It is to mention that, Motor Vehicles Department Jammu has already initiated a special drive against Auto Rickshaws for the implementation of the fare meters and charging as per meters. A fare chart of the important origination/destination points of Jammu city has been publicized by RTO Jammu.
RTO Jammu has appealed to the general public and commuters to pay the auto-rickshaw charges as per meters or fare chart. He warned the vehicle operators to strictly adhere to the provisions of the MV Act, 1988 and rules framed there under, failing which they will be booked under the relevant provisions of the Law.
