UDHAMPUR, June 15: On-line admissions for various courses in Government Degree College Udhampur began today with formal launching of the same by Pawan Kumar Gupta, Minister of State for IT & Finance, in presence of the college Principal Prof S S Bhalwal, senior faculty members and students.
The Minister also released the college Prospectus cum Information brochure.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that initiatives like enhancing the use of ICT for qualitative upgradation of the admission procedures at Higher Education Institutions are the need of the hour to realize the dream of making ‘Digital India’ envisioned by the Prime Minister of the country. “It is important that the youth are motivated and trained for ICT usage and such exposures like online admissions bring them near to this field,” he said and announced to install wifi system in the college.
He asked the college staff to submit proposal to the Ministry of IT for the upgradation of Science & Technology in the college.
The Minister also interacted with the admission seekers who were waiting in queue for prospectus. Prompt in action, the Minister deputed Munish Chandan, Senior Consultant with IT Department to assess the needs of the college for IT enhancement.
Earlier, Principal of the college Prof S S Bhalwal apprised the chief guest about the benefits of online admissions. “This college is the first after the Jammu colleges to introduce online admissions, which will make the procedure transparent and also facilitate in generating various kind of data required during the session,” he explained.
Apprehending the difficulties that may be faced by the computer illiterate or financially weaker students, the college has arranged a Facilitation Centre in which students are given free of cost facility for applying online along with the computer printouts.
