CGPWA extends support to AIIMS Coordination Committee

JAMMU, June 15: The Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA) in its meeting held here today under the chairmanship of its president, SS Wazir, decided to extend support to the AIIMS Coordination Committee, an apolitical forum, which is fighting for an AIIMS at Jammu.
The issue came up for discussion in CGPWA weekly meeting here today and it was felt that Jammu must have AIIMS like super specialty healthcare facilities in the winter capital. It was noted that most of the people especially the senior citizens including pensioners have to face the brunt of non- availability of super specialty facilities in Jammu and rush to Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mumbai cities for specialized treatment in private hospitals at a huge cost and with great deal of inconvenience.
“The facilities of AIIMS New Delhi are seldom used by our people in view of long date because of huge patient load. Setting up of more AIIMS in States would not only benefit people across the country but also reduce patient load at AIIMS New Delhi”, the meeting said and appealed the Government and political leadership to end the stalemate on the issue and open dialogue with Coordination Committee which is not a political forum. “If Bihar State can be given second AIIMS, then why not Jammu?”, CGPWA asked.
Saying that the demand for Jammu AIIMS is genuine and needed to be accepted, the Association appealed to the Central and State Governments to take realistic view of the developing situation and urgently sanction another AIIMS for Jammu on past analogy.
