JAMMU, Dec 21: In a rare gathering of eminent scholars and intellectuals from different fields of life, ‘Pavitr Quran’–the first ever Dogri translation of Holy Quran done by Azra Choudhary was launched here today.
The event was organized by a Jammu based NGO–The Society for Peace and Environment Concerns (SPEC).
The event was presided over by ID Soni, State Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, while Prof Lalit Mangotra Dogri writer and President Dogri Sansthan was the chief guest while Sohail Kazmi was guest of honour. Another guest of honour was DK Vaid, a renowned scholar and Sahitya Academy Awardee.
Ahmed Shanas, Founder Chairman SPEC in his welcome address emphasized how translation work played a pivotal role in the history in the transmission of knowledge and wisdom from one place to another and from one nation to another. It is like building bridges between communities in a multicultural society. Dogri is an important language spoken by about 5 million people in India and Pakistan chiefly in Jammu region. Azra Choudhary, who has done this job is well versed in both Hindi and Dogru launguages. She has taken up this project under the guidance of Abdul Qayyum Nadvi, a well known Academician. It took her six years to complete this, Shahnas informed.
Azra Choudhary and Abdul Qayyum presented their papers on different aspects of Quranic Teachings. Exchange of valuable thoughts by many other scholars made the event a lively one.
Sohail Kazmi, DK Vaid and Prof Lalit Mangotra also expressed their views.
ID Soni in his presidential addressed mentioned that SPEC has been organizing important events of inter faith dialogues from quite sometime with the sole intention to spread the message of peace and harmony.
